Now before we get going here, I'd just like to reiterate that the title of the post says "WHY IT'S BEST" not "WHY YOU SHOULD".
As some of you know, I wrote a pretty controversial blog post last week about 'open to the public beauty supply stores' and the problems selling chemicals to non-licensed/untrained consumers can cause. As I write this it's been read over 300k times, which is far more than I ever even fathomed. I write my blogs for my clients, future clients and friends. They are always solely my opinion and nothing else. A lot of the readers took my post very personally and some were offended. As I sifted through countless comments attacking me for my opinions I couldn't help but think a lot of them were missing the point.... It's not that I don't want everyone to have access to affordable beauty, I want everyone to have great experiences with it. Your hair is very important, I want everyone to feel beautiful on ANY budget.
Having said all that, I have a new topic to discuss!
Is it best to purchase your hair products through your stylist? I think so! Here is why:
This is a question I'm asked very frequently lately.
The short answer: YES, wash your hair the morning of your appointment (for best results).
The explained answer: Not washing your hair before your colour appointment means color has to try and penetrate minerals, hair products, built up oils and whatever else is left on it.
Is it imperative that you wash your hair before your appointment? No. It is better? Yes.
If you have ever had trouble covering greys, or colour fading it's best to give your hair it's best shot. You can even go one step further and wash the morning of your appointment with a treatment packet from Malibu C called "Color Prepare". Eco-chic wellness hair remedy primes hair for color perfection while drawing out all color-blocking elements to ensure optimal coverage and extended color vibrancy.
why you need it
Directions: Shampoo, rinse & pour Color Prepare crystals across wet palm. Rub hands together, adding water to dissolve crystals. Apply and scrunch throughout hair, then allow to remain on hair for 5 minutes. Shampoo & rinse thoroughly. Conditioner is not recommended. Follow with color service. Color service should be processed within 24 hours.
Where can I get it? At Saffyre Salon of course. Call ahead to be sure we have some in stock or pre-order before your next appointment.
Now, for those of you who don't have grey hair, this still applies to you. I saw a video by Comedian Tanya Hennessy that made me laugh cry, because it's so true. At 1:59 she explains to the hair dresser that she hasn't washed her hair in over a week but has come in for a color service.
Can your hair still be coloured if come in with greasy dirty hair? Yes. Will a think you are gross, well.... maybe a little bit ;p. Don't get me wrong, I only wash my hair about twice per week! But it IS nice to work on fresh hair. :D I won't judge you, you do you girl. But it IS absolutely better for your hair and the longevity of the hair color if you come in with fresh locks.
*Disclaimer* For those of you who are bleach retouches, by all means come with dirty hair. The oils on your scalp will act as a barrier for the lightener and make the process easier for you. Directly after we've bleach out your roots I will wash your hair before any further color or toner is added to your hair. Same with highlights, you may come with dirty hair, (if you must) because the lightener has no problem lifting through hair product. And your hair will be washed before a toner or color is used. However, even in the case of highlights, it's best to work on fresh hair.

If you've been in my chair you know I'm mad about dry shampoo, we are in the midst of a torrid love affair. It's not weird. On more than one occasion I've ranted about how it has changed my life. It's also the most asked about product from my clients. Since adding dry shampoo into my styling routine I've had more swoon worthy hair days, I shampoo my hair less often, my styles last for days and I have more time to spend cuddling with Biggie in the morning.
If you incorporate dry shampoo into your beauty routine you'll not only save precious time, but you'll save money too. How you ask? By washing your hair less, you are using less products, less water and less electricity. Your carbon footprint is lowered AND your hair will be healthier, shinier (in a good way) & stronger.
