I decided to write a blog post on colour corrections because it's the topic I receive most questions on as well as it seems to be the service I'm doing most often lately! Let's call it like it is... colour corrections are a beast. They can take hours, even multiple appointments to complete. They can, at times be pricey and there is a lot of maintenance involved before and after the process.
I'd like to share with you some frequently asked questions to better educate my clients currently in the process of a big transformation or thinking about a big change.
What constitutes a colour correction?
By definition a colour correction is simply a colour change. If you currently have dark hair (coloured or virgin) and want to be blonde, have blonde hair and want to darken your tresses or love to change up your pastel/vivid/rainbow coloured locks-- you'll be sitting through a colour correction. Your current colour needs to be removed from your hair, the remaining pigments left behind need to be toned (corrected) and then possibly even further your final colour will be applied. If you are going light to dark, a colour fill will be needed to ensure you have all the supporting pigments your goal shade will need for longevity and brilliance.
Do I need a consultation?
Yes, consultations are very important. We will discuss budget, how many appointments it will take to achieve your dream hair, and how to take care of your hair before and after your appointments.
How long will it take?
Most colour corrections take a minimum of 3-6 hours. Your appointment may take longer depending on your starting shade and where you want to be. Consultations are very important to determine the length of your first appointment and whether additional appointments will be needed.
How much will it cost?
Colour corrections are $100/hr. If your appointment goes over the initial amount of time booked this will reflect in your price. Additionally products will be needed to maintain colour and integrity of your hair. Please budget for these products if they aren't already in your arsenal as they are VERY important. Proceeding your appointment you will want to protect your investment. If you are unsure which products will work best with you hair, don't worry- we will cover this in the consultation.
What's involved after my colour correction?
Keeping up with Olaplex treatments and protein masks will be a must. Depending on your final colour a custom conditioner may also be created for you.
